It's that time. Yes, indeed, that time when the fall shows are starting, new movies are coming out, and you're just saying to yourself, "Hey, you know what would be really awesome? If Character A would show up on Character B's show and shennanigans ensued."

Well, you don't have talk to yourself anymore! (Unless, of course, you want to, in which case, more power to ya.) [livejournal.com profile] xover_exchange is having sign-ups for another round of crossover goodness!

Ever wonder what it would be like to have the NCIS gang investage a crime on the USS Enterprise? Or if Dr. Temperance Brennan and agent Seeley Booth were helping Aaron Hotchner's team of BAU profilers on a case? Or if Peter Petrelli and Dean Winchester met for a one-night stand and bonding over their father's expectations for their lives? Or if the crew of Serenity were on the run from Dr. Horrible?

Wonder no more! Gather your fandoms, throw them in the blender, and hit puree, because it's time for the Crossover Exchange! Go sign up and spread the crossover love!

P.S. Yes, the sign-up sheet is somewhat complicated. It's for a good reason, honest. You'll find more possibilities for your crossovers the longer you look at it, so never fear! :) I did this last year, and had an incredible amount of fun. This year I came up with even more possible crossovers, so this is an exchange that just gets better each round.

I would read all of those crossovers! :D

PS. Thank you for the lollipop! ♥

There's so much awesome stuff that could happen. The whole exchange is just one happy ginormous firework of potential crossover greatness.

P.S. You're ever so welcome!

You are a better promoter than I am! I'm up to my knees in sign-ups, though. It looks like it's going to be awesome this year!

It's so funny; I feel like I'm getting more complaints about the form this year than I did last year, and I actually simplified it a little bit. Sigh. But loads of people still seem like they understand it, and I'm glad you agree that the complication is for a good reason! This whole post was immensely reassuring. :)

I'll agree the form is intimidating, but if you take a second to consider, it's really the only way to make sure the writer has as many chances as possible to create something his/her recipient will like. There are literally limitless possibilities for a story to go when you throw at least 5 fandoms as potential possibilities. And those possibilities are complicated by the character casts in each show. You did a great job in covering all the possibilites in creating the form in the first place.

While I've written stories from everything from one-word prompts to detailed outlines, I tend to like my prompts how I prefer someone giving me driving directions: Name me the major roads, give me some visual clues I should be looking for when I'm getting close to the right place, and lemme know that if I go past the yellow house, I've gone too far. The "you've gone too far" direction is extremely useful, because otherwise I can find myself in totally unknown territory for a long time before I realize that I'm lost.

So that's how I tend to think about the sign-ups, and in that context, it's totally fine.

I had so much fun last year that I wanted to spread the joy to the flist. :)

I've realized that everyone gives and responds to prompts totally differently. I tend to respond best to pairing prompts and very open-ended set-ups, but I know lots of people respond better to one-word things or to more detailed scenarios. So in addition to trying to give writers the chance to write something that'll make their recipient happy, I was trying to help out all the different types of prompt givers and takers. And it would be so unfortunate to find out you've built a story around your recipient's least favorite characters, or to assume someone loves Wincest when it actually squicks them.

So many of my favorite fics ever came out of last year (some in fandoms I don't even know or else never read), so I can't wait to see what people come up with this year! :)

I'm going to sign up--but that sheet is intense. I'm still thinking about all the potentials and confusing myself lol. Seems worth it though!

It's totally worth it. There was so much excellent fic put out last year that waiting for your own fic to be put up is a pleasure.

For me, thinking up the pairings logically lead to a lot of fun scenario promopts. One tends to feed on another. :)

Looks interesting, and I will certainly be checking it out as a reader. As a writer, only a few of those fandoms intice me to write, so I'll be passing on that part and just offering myself as a cheerleading for anyone who needs encouragement.

I have a couple of epic written word source crossovers floating around in my head, and no incentive to write them my own enjoyment. Although I may have another look or two at the list and change my mind.

ETA: Oh HELL! I just took a second look and a plot bunny latched onto my brain. Bad Zombie plot bunny must be obeyed, looks like I'll be signing up after all.

So I downloaded the sign-up sheet, read it over, did some contemplation, and played with a few pairing ideas....then I went to actually fill out the sheet and all these pairings flowed from me like a huge, rain-swollen river! The real fun is in finding crossovers you'd *love* to see, but don;t necessarily seeing yourself write anytime soon. I am way excited.

The pairings, they multiply! I found all kinds of great pairings, not just ones for romance (or just a round or two of the horizontal mambo), but for people I'd just love to see being friends or working together.

So glad you signed up!
